ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
PUBLISHED
AUTHOR: (2005)
Vickie wrote and published a motivational self-help guide entitled The Art of Forgiving. This literary piece is her personal
chronicle of her triumph and victory, over the heartache of divorce, through the power of forgiveness. The Art Of Forgiving
is written in the colloquial voice, sprinkled with lessons learned that are thought provoking yet sprinkled with light moments
of humor. As commented by one of her readers “once I started reading it I didn’t want to put it down,…”
As a result of her writing and oratorical skills, Vickie was presented the 2006 Voices of Women award by the Prince William
County, Virginia chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Delta Education foundation. In addition, she was featured as
the “Author of the Month” on Heaven 1580 am Authors’ Corner.
POET: Vickie’s love for
poetry began at the age of nine years old. As an only child, poetry became a vehicle of expressing childhood “growing
pains” in the small town of Sugarland, Texas. Her first published poem, Reflections, was published in the The International
Library of Poetry compilation entitled The Drifting Sands, in Owing Mills, Md.
PLAYWRIGHT: Ms. Evans has proven to be a prolific playwright.
She has written, directed, and produced several stage plays in several states in the United States. to include Kentucky, Tennessee,
Washington DC, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. She also produced a play entitled The Verdict, in Worms, West
Germany. Listed below is a sampling of Vickie’s work:
CHRISTIANS
DON’T ACT LIKE THAT:
(1992) illustrates the characteristics that should NOT be displayed in the house of worship. Casts includes the money-stealing
deacon who uses the money for his material gain; the “holier than thou” evangelist who abuses her husband yet
worship the loudest at church; the womanizing Pastor who flirts with and entices innocent teenage girls; the loving husband
and father who has an alternative lifestyle who eventually inflicts his devoted wife with HIV/AIDS; the millionaire couple
(banker/doctor) who turn up their nose at those beneath their class and uses their money to gain respect; and finally, the
gossiping mother of the church who spreads everyone’s business all over town.
THE TRUE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS:
(2002) A modern day “Scrooge” depiction of a young teenager who dislikes Christmas because her parents can’t
afford to give her the most popular gifts (cell phone, IPod, etc) like her classmates. Then an angel of the Lord appears and
takes her on a journey that shows her how much love, care, and sacrifice her relatives (an aunt with arthritis and an uncle
with a bad back) put into hand-making and carving her gifts. This revelation opens her eyes to the “True Meaning of
Christmas”.
THE GIFT: (2005) A modern day depiction of the biblical narrative of the “Good Samaritan”. Bishop
Wright, a renown evangelist and teacher, is invited to be the guest speaker at a local church’s annual Christmas revival.
The catch is no one at the church has actually seen Bishop Wright (including the Pastor); they have only heard about his miraculous
works of healing and deliverance. When the Bishop arrives in town, he is mugged by some local thugs and left for dead. Members
of the church encounter Bishop Wright as they walk home from the Christmas planning meeting. They ignore his cry for help
and reprimands him for begging for assistance. However, the local castaways (homeless man, bag lady, wayward teen) feed him
and offer him a sleeping bag for the night. It goes to prove that some gifts come in unexpected packages.
A CHANGE IS GONNA COME: (2006) This heart-wrenching dramatization exposes domestic and emotional abuse from
the least likely place…the pulpit of the church. Bishop James Sills is a well-educated, a well-liked, and a well-to-do
Pastor of a thriving church who is concealing a “Mr. Hyde” personality of violence against his lovely wife, Lisa
Sills. His secret could produce a deadly consequence.
As
a playwright, Vickie believes this is her season to take her powerful and enlightening message of healing, spiritual benevolence
(The Gift) and sacrilegious domestic violence awareness (A Change Is Gonna Come) to the public.
