SPEECHLESS
NATIONAL
DEBUT A SUCCESS!!! JUNE 13TH AND 14TH
| |

As a writer, rarely do I find myself in a position when
I can't find words to express my emotions and feelings; that is the reason I became a writer - to exercise my freedom
of expression. Being the only child and living in a house/community where children were to be "seen and not heard"
did not afford me the opportunity to vocalize my feelings, so I learned to express myself through my writings - especially
poetry. Subsequently, I don't consider myself a boastful person but this weekend in expressing just how magnificent
our national debut of our play, A Change Is Gonna Come, I am rendered speechless. If you missed this weekend you missed
a phenomenon! The cast was star stellar - superb- the "cream of the crop" and they delivered their lines flawlessly
- worthy of Tony awards. The level of excellence was "off the chart". The technical specifications (lighting,
sound, stage management, etc.) was above exception. The reception of the audience and the feedback was glorious.
The setting, the Lincoln Theatre, was exquisite! This is truly two magical nights that will be richly-celebrated, remembered,
and eternally sketched in the historical archives of the Lincoln Theatre right next to such entertainment giants such as Duke
Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Louie Armstrong, Billie Holliday, and Billie Eckstine. I am so honored that I was given
the opportunity to grace the stage of the Lincoln Theatre.
When God first spoke to me
and said "Go to the Lincoln Theatre", I thought this was an enormous task that would be too difficult to accomplish.
My previous performance, on June 9, 2007, venue's capacity equaled 375 seats, and now I was been instructed to go
to a 1,200-seat capacity venue. How could I doubt - is there ANYTHING to HARD for God? Yes, we had our challenges
- but the end result was evident that we had been commissioned and our assignment had been orchestrated by the Master's
hands. The Lincoln Theatre was almost filled to capacity - just a few seats shy of 1,200. But it really
wasn't about the seats; it was about the message - eliminating domestic violence. Many people expressed how their
lives have been touched by the message. A lady testified after the show on how her mother was incarcerated after murdering
her father because he was abusing her mother. This incident occurred in the 60's when stenographers were not
used to record testimony. So the lady hired a stenographer, had her (the stenographer) to come to her house to record
the testimony of everyone who witnessed the abusive nature of her father. Her mother was released from jail. She
encouraged me to continue portraying this message and I am determined to do just that! One of the touching
moments prior to curtain call was when our special guest, Mildred Muhammad, the ex-wife of "the DC Sniper" John
Allen Muhammad (October 2002), enlightened us that the original motive that sent "the DC Sniper" on a killing rampage
was to murder her. A sigh of amazement rippled through the audience. Folks, domestic violence is contagious and
causing innocent people to be murdered! One "theater-goer" called me after Friday night's
performance and stated that we exceeded his expectations. He said he thought the play would be a "boondoggle"
(amateur) but to his amazement it was right up there with "Tyler Perry". Once again, God
solely and exclusively receives the credit for this spectacular event. This performance of grandeur was accomplished
without major investors or sponsorship; however, we would like to thank our individual contributors and those companies that
provided goods and services who kept us above water right at the nick of time. Anyone involved in theater would testify that
it is near impossible to pull off a production of this magnitude with personal funds, on a salary less than $100,000 a year,
without the backing of major corporations and investors - BUT GOD! The acquisition of the Lincoln Theatre alone
was outside of my budgetary means - BUT GOD! The cast sacrificed their time, talent, and treasures - THANK GOD!
My partner, Angela D. Titus, worked tirelessly beside me - THANK GOD! I give God a standing ovation. He is Jehovah
Jireh - Our Provider. He is El Shaddai - more than enough! Many have asked the question,
"What would it take to take this production on the road?" Well, that is simple - investors, promoters, sponsorship,
funds! As our slogan echoes, "One Voice Can Change Many"! Let's invest in what we believe. I
have! I put my life savings on it to include my mortgage and car notes (smile)! Now, I need some dedicated and
serious individuals who want to see this message go to the nations to do the same - INVEST (you don't have to go as far
as I did and invest your mortgages and car notes - smile)! Let your voice be heard! Be an advocate in the
campaign to stop domestic violence. You can contact me via e-mail at mychangegonnacome@yahoo.com to get involved! One of our cast members, Mandrell Birks (a.k.a. Pastor James Sills) is the host of an on-line domestic violence
radio show broadcasted on WHUR-WORLD (96.3) www.whurworld.com every Saturday morning at 7:00 am EST. He also has a website
www.sighlentstorm.com. On that website is a wealth of information and resources on domestic violence. Please visit
it! For Soaring High Productions, this is just the beginning! Ride the wave with us while it
is at your disposal! We are about to soar to heights beyond our imaginations and we won't stop until this message
reaches the entire continent. Get on board! Stay tuned for what's next. Blessings, Vickie L. Evans President, Soaring High Productions
